I am trying to design some wings using autocad 2008.

Does anyone know the dimensions most formula one car wings are at? Also what are the max dimensions allowed by the FIA?

about F1 wings's dimension I'm not sure right now,
anyway it's strange to use Autocad for to draw a F1 part.......but Autocad isn't only a 2D CAD??

if yes, as I suppose but I can also mistake me, isn't sure the usual item for this market.

3D products like Unigraphics, Catia or Pro/E are more usual for F1 needs.

I see... yes, CAD is 2D and wouldn't work.

I'm sure the software you mentioned is expensive... is there any software that is free (dare I ask). I'm a skint student!

you can find the dimensions allowed on FIA website,
searching for Technical Regulations 2008,
if I remember well it is a PDF file and you can download it very easily.

Have Autocad 2008 a simple module to start design in 3D ?

I agree with Eragon that such software is not the best way to start design
a wing profile; try with Pro-E, I remember that schools and universities can
obtain a student licence with a great discount on price.
All the F1 team using UG or Catia, but the complete licences cost very much for a student.
If you have some money to spend I suggest to buy
"Theory of wing section", from Ira Abbot, an useful book where you can find a summary of airfoil data scheduled by NACA,
it is a bible, believe me.
You can try to design simple profile using that data . . .

Hi Matt,

As indicated by precedent replies, you will find complete allowed dimensions on the FIA website as well as basic profiles and ratios.
Now, I am sure you can find plenty of wing and NACA profiles on the web
Also, sometimes demo files available on CFD software website.
