Default IC engines waste Heat/PRIUS/Atkins cycle....

IC engines dump too much heat energy out of their exhausts - would be nice to expand the gases a bit further and produce more power and dump less hot gases out of the exhaust.

I notice that PRIUS uses the Atkins cycle by keeping the inlet valve open after BDC and dumping some of the intake volume to later over-expand it !

Seems a bit of a waste, the MECXIC cycle seems to be a better alternative as it over-expands the charge already in the cylinder.

Any other ideas to stop IC engines throwing away too much heat before they are all replaced by Lithium batteried wheelchairs ??
