Racing techniques. Drifting This article concerns the motor sport racing and one of its techniques, drifting. It is actually the technique, which is applicable to turn the car sideways. A car is in a drifting position when, the angle of rear slip exceeds the angle of the front slip and the front wheels are pointing opposite to the car’s turn. However, it is not a default movement and is generally controlled by the driver. However, you must know that the technique of drifting is not possible in the case of a front-wheel-drive car. Modern technique of drifting started over 30 years ago in Japan by legendary motorcyclist Kunimitsu Takahashi. Today, drifting has evolved into competitive sport practice. There are various places in the world where motor sport racing is practiced like Malaysia, Australia, Canada, and United Kingdom etc. However, international motor sport racing governing body like the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile has not recognized the technique of drifting as a professional form of motor sporting. There are drifting competitions that are judged onb the basis of line, speed, angle and the show factor. The show factor however, depends on the amount of smoke, closeness of the car to the wall and the reaction of the crowd. The speed is measured as the speed while entering a turn, speed existing the turn and the speed through the turn. The faster these speeds are the better points the biker or the racer accumulates from the judges. There are various types of drifting techniques that are practiced during driving a motor sports car. The Kansei Drift is generally performed at race speeds. In this case the driver, while entering a corner, lifts the foot from the throttle and introduces a mild oversteer and tends to balance the drift through the steering motions and throttles. In the case of braking drift, trail braking is done to a corner. After this, balancing is done through throttle and steering motions and the loss of grip is obtained. In faint drift, the technique is performed by rocking movement of the car towards the outside of a turn and then rebounds on the grip to throw the car into the normal cornering position. Clutch kick is the technique that is performed through performing a depression to the clutch pedal during a mild drift and then pops the clutch for a jolt to upset the rear traction. Other types of drifting are used as effective techniques of racing and motor sporting. Competitive drifting is the type of motor sport that is rated on style, rather than on speed or position a group of other racers. Although, drifting is not the fastest way around a racetrack, it is useful in case of rallying as it is considered the most efficient way to turn the car at the corner and the car is well managed in the case of cornering. However, drifting is slower in the case of circuit racing and but are faster comparatively inn the case of conventional racings. The only time drifting acts as a speeder option is during the time a tight corner arrives and suddenly the biker has to take a turn. Today, drifting has now become a major sport in itself and is mainly used by those drivers who want to keep their cars to the sides as long as possible. Nowadays, to make judgment in the drifting competitions easier, the equipment called a Drift box has been introduced. It uses the GPS criteria too measure the angle of turning and speed and G-force and speed at which the drift occurred. These days there are video games in the market that has options for drifting techniques.
