Default updated Ferrari's nose

Hi to everybody,

I have a question for technical F1 guys.

Can you explain me what's the real reason for this new update (see the images below) shown on the Ferrari nose in the last F1 test in Spain?
It's something regarding the down-force?

Hi Eragon,

Ferrari run this new front part in the Barcelona testing, as you certainly know.
This feature is aimed at making use of the high-pressure air that builds up between the front wing and the underside of the nose.

This would improve the car's downforce by sending a better airflow to the rear wing.

What Ferrari have done is to create a channel inside the nose cone that takes this high-pressure region and vents it over the top of the chassis.

Senior managment investigating a leak in the team :
weeks before the Italian outfit tested their radical nose cone, 'Autosprint' magazine broke the story about the innovation with sketches.
As Aldo Costa declared to Swiss newspaper "Blick" only "very few knew about this innovation".
An internal investigation would already be in progress.

thank you for the explanation, but then the result obtaining with this new front parts is it different respect what already seen for BMW and seen always in Barcelona for Honda nose? images below....

the aerodynamic effects that the Ferrari's engineers want to get they are different from those that seek BMW's and Honda's guys?

I think that it is only a new concept,
Ferrari wants create no obstruction to the front wing's upward air stream.

If you can imagine looking at a slice through the middle of the car. The flow over\under the front wing wants to rise up and form a rising wake before flattening off. However the nose and chassis above the wing obstruct this wake forming and reduce the front wings efficiency. High noses and raised chassis improve the wake formation, but always the nose will impact on the flow. As high pressure builds up above the flap, this can’t be released and hence flattens the low pressure flow under the wing and also spills around the sides of the car needing the various flow flatteners that the front of all the cars are adorned with. What Ferrari have done is provide a route for the high pressure to bleed into, I suspect the hole starts and ends before the trailing edge of the flap. The air exits over the top of the car and probably splits left\right to pass over the sidepods. Meanwhile underneath, the low pressure under the wing is not affected by the high pressure region and is allowed to expand to create more downforce. The effect should both create more downforce and more rear downforce. However the effect will be small, I don’t see this as a must have development worth whole tenths for any car, merely a solution for Ferraris overall aero philosophy.

One side note, this solution might deemed legal under the 2009 non-overlapping bodywork rule, making it a useful development when other aero aids are banned.
