Let's discuss about Formula 1 GP At the beginning there has been the possibility to ask to a real Chief Designer of Formula 1 cars (Gabriele Tredozi) his professional opinion on some technical issues. He explained some of the last improvements and he answered all your questions concerning the past, the present and the future of Formula 1 technologies and challenges. NOW it's time to go on without him, let's keep on discussing about each Formula 1 GP in this special area, with all our impressions, ideas and questions about races, vehicles, riders and so many other things. IT'S YOUR TURN!!

Hello Ing. Tredozi,
first of all I would like to say that it's a big honuor to discuss with you
about F1 technical issues.

As the title say my first question is which are the advantages of choising
double plane or triple plane front wing ?
What dou you think about the BMW solution to test a "2,5" plane front wing,
is it a compromise or a trend to follow ?

Thank you for your answers.
LMcQ

Hi LMcQ

as jeff said to you on of the reason the team chose a triple plane front wing is to avoid any detachment of the air flow. By the way, never forget that in each aero solution the goal is and will always remeain to gain efficency and downforce.
The 3 plane choise is helpful when the car is running at big forward aero balance.
Regarding the BMW choice that you call 2.5 front wing in my opinion is a clever solution, however I think and really believe that every team will test this in wind tunnel.

Hello Gabriele,

about the aerodynamical testing, which is your opinion on computer simulation ?
Do you think that in the future simulation overcome wind tunnel (50%, 60% or full scale) and track testing ?
Is the balance between computer simulation and testing the right solution to achieve the best aerodynamical development ?
And what about your personal experience?

LMcQ

Dear LMcQ

The aerodynamical simulation is very important but must be sure of the results, this need a lot of experience and the validation between real data from the car and wind Tunnel data.
So far must of the Team are using 50% and 60% scale WT to increase the scale is monney issue, my personal opinion is that the 50% is the bettar compromise between cost and result
