 After fabricating the Titanium gearbox case (Ferrari-Barnard 1997) and the carbon-fibre case (Arrows-Barnard/Stewart-Jenkins 1998), Titanium RC case is the last evolution, and with the highest quality performance issued in this area, as many imitations, after its debut on Minardi 2000, demonstrate.
The needs are the same as for uprights, but the complexity of the project design and the dimensions are by far higher. After a direct comparison between magnesium and titanium gearbox, the results are as follow:
- weight saving of 20-25% and dimension saving of about 20%;
- torsion stiffness doubled;
- less gear wear and less power absorption;
- use of oil at higher temperature and lower viscosity.
This technology versatility allows applications in many different areas, inside the racing, and not only, thanks to a good value for money.
