Additive Manufacturing with Windform, Taking 3D Printing to the Next Level
The studies carried out by CRP Technology from 1996 have changed the scenario of Rapid Prototyping introducing a new concept of Additive Manufacturing and 3D Printing: Windform 3D Printing materials have allowed the technology of selective laser sintering (SLS) in order to realize high performing parts for wind tunnel applications as well as finished and functional parts. All Windform 3D Printing materials can be CNC machined.
The development of the Windform line is due to the need to introduce in the market more performing Additive Manufacturing or 3D Printing materials with properties able to distinguish them as the main SLS materials.
All Windform 3D printing materials can be CNC machined and processed with tooling machines if necessary, for example to obtain plans and seats with narrow tolerances.
Windform XT2.0, Windform SP, Windform LX2.0 and Windform GT have passed outgassing tests that have been carried out at NASA. The result states: Materials were tested in accordance to the ASTM E-595-07 standard and are considered passing.
The range of Windform polyamide materials is composed of different kind of powders, patent-pending and with trademark, developed by the R&D department of CRP Technology and sold worldwide.
Windform XT 2.0 is a polyamide-based material carbon filled and it assures the maximum mechanical performance for 3D printing and Additive Manufacturing. Windform XT 2.0 is a Top Level laser sintering material. It is characterized by high stiffness, excellent strength and reduced weight. Windform® XT 2.0 can replace finished parts for small run of production that are usually made with standard technologies such as injection mold, lamination of carbon fabric and metal replacement in some applications. It can guarantee high-dimensional accuracy.
Windform SP is a polyamide-based material carbon filled. It maintains maximum mechanical strength. Windform SP is a highly ductile material with top mechanical resistance. In addition it is waterproof with excellent sealing characteristics both to liquids (water, oil, gasoline, etc…) and gas.
Windform SP can be used where there is high stress fatigue even in time type vibration or shock without the risk of breaking. It is also suggested in applications where resistance to damage, vibration and deformation is required. It can also assure fine details reproduction.
Windform FX BLACK is a new generation polyamide based material with a dark black color. It is characterized by exceptional resistance to repeated bending and torsion. The material shows excellent impact resistance even at low temperatures. Its consistency and behavior are similar to polypropylene and ABS injection moulded parts. Windform® FX BLACK is perfect for creating accurate, reliable, and long lasting prototypes.
Windform LX 2.0 is a polyamide-based material reinforced with glass fibers. It can be used in multiple applications, where a functional material is required. It is also not electrically conductive. Windform LX 2.0 has a good tensile strength thanks to the fiberglass. It can be CNC machined as all Windform materials. Moreover, it is also a non-conductive material so it can be suitable for battery boxes, containers of electrical and electronic components and KERS energy recovery. It can guarantee high-dimensional accuracy.
Windform GT is a polyamide-based material glass filled and it is highly elastic and it is resistant to liquids. It is highly elastic, therefore it is suitable in applications where the material must be flexible and resistant at the same time in order to avoid any breakage. It is waterproof even without the aid of surface treatments. The Windform GT is not electrically conductive and it can assure fine details reproduction.
Windform GF 2.0 is a polyamide-based material glass filled and aluminium. It is particularly suitable for applications which require accurate and superior surface definition and excellent reproduction. The versatility of the product combined with the technology used allows for endless possibilities.
